What is the chance your child will become nearsighted?
Pediatric Eye Clinic
Parents who are nearsighted know all too well the struggles they experienced with their nearsightedness as a child.
Parents often ask us "how likely is it that my child will become nearsighted like me?" They wonder if they are going to pass their "bad" vision genes onto their child?
Myopia is caused by genetics as well as some environmental factors. A child with one nearsighted parent is THREE times as likely to be nearsighted. A child with two nearsighted parents is SIX times more likely to become nearsighted.
We recommend vision exams to detect myopia very early.
