Ortho-K for Children

Is your child becoming more nearsighted every year?

Are you concerned?

Myopia, is a common condition in childhood. Nearsighted simply means that things at near are clear, and things at distance are not as clear. The most common approach to address this is eyeglasses or contact lenses. They “compensate” to help the person see better at distance, but often the nearsightedness continues and becomes worse. Many individuals who are now parents wore eyeglasses as children.

What Causes Myopia in Children?

There are many reasons why some children become nearsighted and others do not. Heredity is a factor, but not the only one. Some individuals have a faulty focusing mechanism (accommodation) and this can be the reason for the progression of nearsightedness. Eyeglasses compensate for the nearsighteness, but if the individual’s focusing mechanism continues to work poorly, the problem continues, and the child becomes more nearsighted. Eyeglasses compensate for, but don’t “correct” nearsightedness.

Ortho-k – The Best Way to Control Myopia

Young people or children that struggle with worsening or progressing myopia should consider Ortho-K. Studies show that the treatment reduces existing myopia as the contacts are worn overnight.

Ortho-K enables children to play sports without the need for eyeglasses or contact lenses.
