Pediatric Eye Clinic

If your children are able to see clearly during birth and teen years, their eyes are most probably healthy. If you have been able to help them maintain healthy eyes till their teenage years, it is likely that the same will follow subsequently. Some of the major eye care tips for children are mentioned below:

1. Ensure a Balanced Diet:

A well balanced diet has green and red leafy vegetables like carrots, spinach and beetroot. Their diet should also comprise yellow fruits like papayas and mangoes that have carotene in huge quantities. Carotene is an antecedent to Vitamin A and is considered very well for healthy eyes.

2. Do Not Stare At Computer Screen for Long:

You should change your child’s habit of staring at the computer screen for long hours. This causes eye exhaustion. To avoid it the monitor of the computer needs to be laid a little lower than the level of his/her eyes.

3. Watch Television from a Safe Distance:

Do not allow your children to watch T.V. from a close distance, in spite of their pleadings. A minimum distance of three and a half meters should be maintained in a well illuminated room to ensure safety. Moreover, they should not watch TV in a dim room.

4. Avoid Playing Mobile Video Games for Long:

Your children should have limited access to mobile games. Their excessive indulgence in these games could cause them to have few of the signs seen in adult computer vision syndrome. Furthermore, it could also cause uneasiness in the eyes, hazy image, headaches and exhaustion.

5. Avoid Eye-Rubbing:

Rubbing eyes frequently can cause germs to spread and lead to infections. Such as children with conjunctivitis should not rub their eyes as it can worsen the ill effects of the virus. Cleanliness of eyes needs to be given topmost priority. Being a parent you should teach your children to touch their eyes, under any circumstances barring an emergency, only after washing their hands.

6. Avoid Using Kaajal or/and Soorma:

The application of kaajal or soorma (both are varieties of Kohl) on the eyelids of your children is not a good practice. Unless you can personally vouch for the quality of the materials used to manufacture them. These substances are not considered safe and may affect their eye-sight.

7. Stop Use of Unsafe Toys:

Always supervise your children when at home and instruct them not to play with sharp toys, such as jagged-framed toys. Such toys are quite dangerous and can prove very harmful to them. You can eradicate this thing beforehand by not letting your child buy any sharp-edged toys.

8. Additional Protection to be Adhered:

Keep an eye on your children when it comes to fireworks. Make sure that they maintain safe distance from it. Ensure that they wear goggles while swimming to protect them from infections. Do not let them come in contact with various chemicals and sprays.

Children are very naive and need to be instructed to be careful against certain dangers. Eye care tips for kids would be incomplete without remaining extra-cautious about your children. These tips are sure shot ways for you to protect their eyes and keeping them healthy.
