Is There Anything I Can Do to Protect My Child’s Vision?

Pedro Gomez OD

Regular eye exams are the best way to protect your child’s vision, but there are some things you can do to help make sure their eyes are safe.

The AOA notes protective eye wear is a big part of preventing vision issues.

Children in sports should always wear protective eye wear, as should children doing risky activities like lawn mowing or trimming.

And don’t forget to keep the sun at bay. Ultraviolet light does more than just give children sunburns — it can lead to cataracts or macular degeneration later in life. Put those sunglasses on, no arguments!

If you want more advice about keeping your child’s vision healthy, make an appointment with an optometrist.
